iBike Taichung - Video Intro

Taichung city is the third largest city in Taiwan. It had implemented public bicycle sharing system since three years ago and getting its poupularity more and more in these days. You can see a lot of people riding iBike on the street during weekends and students riding to school on the week days. Biking is the best pace to get around the city centers. So we created a biking tour that everyone can join and get to know this city here and there in just one day.

Biking in Taichung City, Taiwan

Taichung is the third largest city in Taiwan, and it's history can actually traced back to the 16th century. During the past 400 years period, Taichung has passed through Qing dynasty rule and Japanese colonial era, contributing to its rich, distinctive local culture and festivals. Taichung's natural resources and diverse ethnic make-up have generated an abundance of unique local specialties, including authentic Taiwanese dishes, Hakka cuisine and international fine dinnings.

Biking is the easiest way to go around the city and explore the beautiful small corners that typical tourists would not visit. If you travel with your own bike like me, there are two starting points recommended, Taichung train station if by train or Maple Valley Park (Maple Garden) if by bus.

image.jpg

Taichung station represents more historical side of the city. Within that district, you can find many historical sites including the iconic Taichung Park Pavillion, Traditional markets, and old city halls, and so on. This area tells you how this city was stared and how important it was to connect northern and southern by playing its role. Take a short biking tour in this place can easily spend half day and you can then move on toward the new center of the city to discover more new and fancy surroundings.

iBike is the name of the public bike sharing system in Taichung (but using same system as UBike in Taipei), so even visitors without bicycle can enjoy riding the bikes in Taichung. All you need is to purchase an Yoyo Card (Easy Card) from any convenient stores and register it at the iBike station kiosk, then you are ready to go. If you find it troublesome to get the Easycard, you can also use your credit card to register and rent iBike at any time!

there are many places that you can go around within the city and arranging one day to really see this city would be suggested. Next time, plan your trip with us and do not miss the great places to Biking Taiwan.

Biking Dajia Riverside Park, Taipei

2016/01/10 what a nice day to ride bikes in Taipei after all those rainy and cloudy days during the week!

We met up with our best friends in Taipei after church in order to pick up my ordered secondhand Kindle, and of course hoping to enjoy a biking ride together in our favorite beautiful riverside bikeways that Taipei has to offer.

You cannot spell LOVE without Velo!!

You cannot spell LOVE without Velo!!

Taipei is the capital city of Taiwan, so as you can imagine it is full of people, traffic, business, tourists, and mostly crowded all the time, not to mention the most famous landmark Taipei 101. But if you are trying to find a nice and peaceful place to spend your weekend or pure relaxation during your trip to Taipei, we highly recommend to hop on a Youbike or rent a bike and ride along the riverside bikeways that Taipei has prepared for you.

Rental bike with 6 speeds, good enough for strolling along the riverside!

Rental bike with 6 speeds, good enough for strolling along the riverside!

Bike rental is relatively easy here. All you need is an eligible ID or passport, and if you come in group one ID can rent for a max of 5 bikes at the same time. Today, we rented a bike with six speed and it is only 130NTD (4USD) for three hours. Some rental station also offers A-rent-B-return program, so you can enjoy the full bikeway without worrying the return journey.

Riverside bikeways are combined with Parks and are suitable for families or friends who just want to have leisure rides. Many people are doing picnic and kite flying besides biking. We really enjoy a wonderful trip with friends and have a chance to take some good photos since they are the professional photographers. This biking trip starts from Dajia Riverside Park and to Beitou traditional market and then same way back. Not very intense ride but many beauties to see.

Thank you, Candy and Simon for joining this beautiful afternoon Biking Taiwan section!

but just on a side note, I still think renting Youbike might be easier and better option to get around in Taipei since we can just return and leave it to any Youbike station which is closer to Metro station and go on for the trip to anywhere. (Just look at me in the following photo, sometimes I get tired and don't wanna go back the same way hahahaha)

Biking Taiwan - Taichung Day Trip (6 Districts)

After a wonderful evening spent in Taipei, we came back to Taichung with local express train which is easier for carrying our foldable bikes along.

Small, but not that small! It seems to be on this little cuteness' way. Hahaha...

Small, but not that small! It seems to be on this little cuteness' way. Hahaha...

Since the weather was only a bit cloudy and no rain, so it might be a good idea to get off the train some stations earlier than Taichung and bike our way back home.

So here we are, get off the train in Houli Station where is the starting point for Houfeng Bikeway.

Decoration says it all. Bike renting is available too.

Houfeng Bikeway is a tiny 4.5km path arose from the innovative conversion of out-of-use railway tunnels. Biking enthusiasts can ride inside the tunnels and take a break by the old trees and farms that sit along the route.  (during holidays many people, be aware)

Yes, indeed Houfeng Bikeway is short and not getting us home directly so we need to ride pass Fengyuan and move on to our next destination, Tanyasheng Bikeway.

Tanyasheng Bikeway stretches 12km, connecting Tanzi, Daya and Shengang districts. It is easy to cruise along this route because it's surface is quite flat, except some fly-over bridges.
